The Iranian Women Film Series, are films by or about women a celebration of the incredible cinematic talent of Iranian women in the world of filmmaking. This series aims to spotlight the unique voices, stories, and perspectives of Iranian women on the big screen.

Radiograph of a Family

Our first film screening will be The featured film, “,Radiograph of a Family“ Feature Documentary (2020) directed by Firouzeh Khosravani, winner of the most prestigious documentary film award at IDFA.

Synopsis: The daughter of a secular father and a devout mother tells the story of how they co-exist under one roof. Through photos and fictional conversations, we discover the family’s change during the years of revolution in Iran. Using her own childhood as the focus of the narrative, the author lets us witness the power struggle between her mother and father.

During the revolution, their modern apartment – decorated with daring art by the father – gradually turns into a dreary, empty space in the hands of the religious mother. Like a diorama, the family home reflects the political events of the time. The family’s story becomes a central metaphor, depicting the intriguing puzzle that constitutes modern Iranian identity.
