Nahid Hagigat’s unique sensibility developed as a child growing up in Teheran, Iran, where she was exposed to a rich tradition of art and poetry but also experienced the pain of subjugation in a patriarchal society. Having recognized art as her calling at a young age, Nahid studied fine arts at Teheran University. In 1968, determined to expand her knowledge base, she moved to the United States, obtaining a Ph.D. in art and art education from New York University.

Scholars assessing her work—currently collected by the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Tehran Museum of Modern Art, JP Morgan-Chase New York, New York University, and World Bank in Washington, D.C. among others.

Her recent exhibitions include A selected group exhibition at The Bridge and Tunnel Gallery; Bare Tree and Truth at White Wall Space, New York; Beyond The Ban at Susan Eley Fine Art, New York.

Her recent Museum exhibitions include Recent Acquisition of Works on Paper, British Museum, Iran Modern, Asian Society. Iran Modern is a landmark exhibition that is focusing on Iranian art created during the three decades leading up to the revolution of 1979.

Nahid Hagigat is also the founder and the director of the White Wall Space, in New York City. WWS is an intimate gallery space presenting exhibitions and gatherings about art and artists.

Dancing Where The Dreams Live

Dancing for one’s own pleasure is one of the most gleeful expressions of happiness. It opens up the heart and connects us to our innermost self. Similarly, an artist’s process induces a state of euphoria in them. When engrossed in their work, they dance, as if bearing witness to creation.
