About The Event

“Dancing Where The Dreams Live” brings together seven world-renowned and celebrated American-Iranian artists in a group exhibition at the inaugural opening of The Bridge and Tunnel Gallery.

After over a year and a half of shutdown, distancing, and virtual correlation,  We are extremely excited and thrilled to experience this unique and exclusive body of work in person.

Hadi Hazavei, Nicky Nodjoumi, Sudi Sharafshahi, and Nahid Hagigat met in the mid1960’s at Tehran University, Faculty of Fine Arts, as art students.

Their friendship grew stronger when they reunited in NYC to continue their art education and follow their passions after graduation. Through years of creating art, partaking in solo and group exhibitions, and living as artists in NYC, they met and connected with other Iranian artists that later became life-long friends. Among those artists were Shahram Karimi, Nazanin Noroozi, and Farshid Shafiey.

Nahid Hagigat, one of the presenting artists and the curator of “Dancing Where The Dreams Live,” brings the circle of old friends together for the first time under one roof to share their stories and dreams with their timeless creations.

Hadi Hazavei, an artist and a scientist, incomparably creates unique paintings, installations, and sculptures influenced partially by traditional Persian style and mainly by his experimental tasks and experiencing and creating many combinations of different media.

Characters in Nicky Nodjoumi’s paintings are familiar figures, mainly political personage driven from newspapers. Yet, Nodjoumi masterfully creates and reconstructs these forms into unfamiliar and mysterious subject matters, ridiculing the authorities’ power.

In her recent paintings, Sudi Sharafshahi presents her main characters as subway riders. She cleverly and notably unfolds the truth through an artist’s eyes, creating a new world that is all about love and passion for life.

Nahid Hagigat’s paintings and hand-painted etchings are combinations of synopsis of life events. She divinely depicts her subject matters either from her own direct experiences or as an eyewitness.

In his poetic paintings, Sharam Karimi sensationally portrays and challenges his identity by combining ordinary people, dreamy floral Persian gardens, and childhood memories.

Nazanin Noroozi gracefully depicts in her mixed media artworks, paintings, and videos a sense of heroism of people who have outlived harsh tyrannies and the fragile moments of day-to-day life.

Farshid Shafiey brilliantly fuses the chronological agendas of bicultural identity through vivid colors of distorted human shapes and poetic elegance in his paintings.

We look forward to seeing you on October 9th
